A Greater Investment, A Stronger Support

PrayerMy wife and I have a few missionaries that we support on a regular basis. The money that we give them is planned for in our monthly budget. The giving is not haphazard, but regular and consistent.

So it dawns on me that although I’ve been diligent in helping them physically, perhaps I have been negligent with their spiritual needs. Don’t misunderstand. Of course I have prayed—and even prayed intensely—for each of them… from time to time. But maybe not as consistently as my giving.

The Apostle Paul frequently requested prayers (Colossians 4:3; 1 Thessalonians 5:25), and mentioned to his readers that he and others were praying for them (Colossians 1:3; 2 Timothy 1:3). He also told how important the prayers of fellow-believers were in his accomplishing the tasks God had given him (Philippians 1:19).

Is it possible that the missionaries we consistently support with finances would be more effective if we also consistently supported them in prayer?

YES. Both are needed, but prayer is even more powerful than money…
Great insight on consistency. One online tool that really helped me with that is called Echo Prayer Manager… “make a prayer list, set reminders, get emailed throughout the week.” Check it out – http://www.echoprayer.com/front/welcome.php
