There are a few places in the world where mountains are right next to an ocean. It makes for quite a spectacular scene. The mountains towering above the blue ocean waves can be breathtaking. The one pictured here is the Suao-Hualien Coast in Taiwan.
But imagine with me for a moment. Suppose you were standing and looking at the scene in this picture. Serene. Tranquil. Lovely. But suddenly, the mountains just fall right into the ocean. One second they are towering above it, and the next they’re beneath the water. That would be a bit unnerving, don’t you think? Maybe unnerving is too gentle a word. Perhaps scary might be more accurate, right?
Yet the Bible declares, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.” (Psalm 46:1-3)
No matter what happens—even mountains falling into an ocean—God is still our refuge and strength, so we have nothing to fear.
